You know summer is just around the corner when Fukuoka’s beer gardens start to open! Fukuoka Now staff were lucky enough to get a taste of summer on Friday (May 9) at the pre-opening event for “Beer Air” – the great outdoor beer garden located on the 4th floor observation deck at Fukuoka Airport Terminal 2. As Japan’s only beer garden located at an airport, Beer Air has fast become one of Fukuoka’s most popular summer spots, with 30,000 people attending in 2013.
But what makes it so great? Well, for starters the spacious terrace affords panoramic views of airplanes taking off and landing. You can hear the planes’ engines, watch them fly overhead and enjoy the sunset over the tarmac. Perfect for beer lovers, plane lovers and photographers!
Then, there’s the food – fresh, delicious and so many options to choose from! Take full advantage of the all-you-can-eat system to sample sushi, salads, bruschetta, mini sandwiches, karaage, hot dogs, pasta, Japanese curry, noodles, plus some tasty desserts. Dishes are supplied by the restaurants located inside the airport so there’s a wide variety to choose from. And it wouldn’t be a beer garden without the beer – Beer Air offers Asahi and Kirin on tap, as well as highballs, shochu, sake, wine, soft drinks and more.
Beer Air is open from 5/13~10/4. Advance reservations are required. Due to popularity in 2013, this year the garden will increase the amount of sessions per week, with new weekend lunchtime sessions between 7/4~8/31. The weekend slots will add the opportunity for around 3,000 extra guests this year.
