What could possibly be better than a big frosty mug of beer? How about that same stein of suds served outside on a summer evening with a cool breeze? Since the early 1950's, Japanese salarymen have enjoyed what has now become a tradition of taking to the rooftops of buildings to enjoy buffets and pitchers, pitchers, and more pitchers of ale. According to legend the very first beer garden in Japan made its appearance in 1875, opened by 'Spring Valley Brewery', nowadays known as 'Kirin Brewery Company', and targeting mainly foreign residents and sailors from abroad. So, it seems appropriate to make sure our foreign readers are informed about beer gardens in Fukuoka this summer. Check out our roundup of eight of the better known gardens. Most offer all-you-can drink and eat plans. Some have awnings for protection from the rain, but some don't. Either way, enjoy!
