The Craic and Porter

Owner Mike Charron is a longtime Fukuoka resident who worked in food service for decades and then took it upon himself to open his own Irish bar. Stepping into the Craic and Porter, you can very much see that the place is an independent business and the brainchild of one man because it very much feels like you are hanging out at someone’s house rather than a bar. Very cozy and homey. There is a good selection of craft beers with usually six to seven on tap and of course the old Irish favorite Guinness. He had a limited run homemade cider on tap for the summer but that may change as the weather cools off. Also, there is a range of Irish whiskeys for only ¥600 a shot and if you would like a little education on the matter, Mike would be glad to chew the fat with you. After all, he is the recipient of the prestigious Jameson’s Qualified Irish Whiskey Taster certification and a big fan of Irish whiskeys in general. As far as food goes, the menu changes at the whim of Mike. On any given day he is whipping up something new for customers to munch on. Some days he will have pulled pork or maybe pasta or could it be pizza or shepherd’s pie? It really depends on which way the wind is blowing but with around 30 years of experience as a chef, Mike will be making something tasty. Mike is an old-time Fukuoka resident. He has lived here for several decades and has seen the changes this city has undergone. If you want to learn more about Fukuoka past and present you’re in luck, he is a talker. So pull up a seat, order a frosty beer and strike up a conversation, he is more than happy to oblige.
