Land Ministry to Cap Flights at Fukuoka Airport

According to sources, Japan’s land ministry is thinking about capping Fukuoka Airport’s capacity at 35 take-offs and landings per hour. At present, there are 40 take-offs and landings per hour during the airport’s busiest times, and although the new restriction would make exceptions for existing flights, it would make it impossible to add new flights to the schedule. Fukuoka Airport is designated by the ministry as a congested airport, and it plans to put the new restrictions in place with the announcement of the summer schedule at the end of next March. Although work has begun on a new taxiway and runway at Fukuoka Airport, they will not be completed until 2019 and 2024, respectively. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 10/4
