Number of Foreign Visitors to Kyushu Tops Record High

According to figures released by the Kyushu Transportation Bureau, the number of foreign visitors who entered Kyushu between January and September of this year reached 1,918,534, beating out last year’s previous record high of 1,675,000 for the same period. Looking the breakdown in visitors by country and region, Koreans increased 42.6% year-on-year to 786,600, Taiwanese rose 26.2% to 184,655, Chinese were up 60.2% to 131,208 and Hong Kongese jumped 80.4% to 88,195. In addition to the weak yen, an increase in cruise ship ports of call and international air routes has seen visitors flock to Kyushu at a pace outstripping the national average. Source: fiba.jp
