Veggie Prices Soar Due to Weather Double Whammy

A cloudy August in Kanto and Shinetsu regions of Japan, coupled with the Kyushu’s drenching by Typhoon No. 15, has caused veggie prices to skyrocket. Prices for eggplant and cucumbers at the Fukuoka Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market are 50% higher than the three-year average, and Chinese cabbage (hakusai) prices are up almost 40%. Consumers can expect to continue feeling the sting for the time being. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 9/24
