For two hours a Saga City street will be transformed into a running track fit for the professionals! Medal-winning runners will be demonstrating sprinting and hurdles for the Saturday crowds: Naoki Tsukahara (won a bronze medal for the 400m relay at 2008 Beijing Olympics), Jun Haruta (represented Japan in the 100m race at the 2012 London Paralympic Games), Hitomi Shimura (winner of the 100m hurdle at Japan Championship in 2013 and 2015), and more! Elementary school children will also be invited to take to the track for a special junior race – you may even see a future Olympian tearing down the course. This pop-up event promises to be like nothing Fukuoka has ever seen before, and so well worth the trip. Just don’t forget your sunscreen! It’s going to be a hot one.
