Goo – Bar & Side Dish

Casual Spanish-influenced pub with inexpensive tapas and world beers. Recognizing that Fukuoka already had more than enough French and Italian bistros and cafes, Sasaki-san did some market research and chose “Spanish pub” as her concept for Goo. The name is Janglish slang for “good” and was picked by her daughter and colleague. And it’s really “goo!” The first-floor pub is located on the side-street behind the Chuo-ku Ward Office and is filled with tiny tables, perfect for couples. They can also be lined up to seat a larger group. Inexpensive Spanish wines including reds, whites and sparkling Cava are featured on the menu. Equally impressive is the list of fifty beers from around the world, such as Russian Baltika (1,000 yen), Spanish Zaragozana (700 yen) and UK Young’s Double Chocolate Stout (1,000 yen). For those on a budget, enjoy a mug of happo-shu (low-malt) for just 290 yen –it’s “goo” too! Spanish pub standards such as Spanish Omelet, Shrimp & Avocado Salad, and Spanish-style Garlic Shrimp are all tasty and made to order. For something more filling try their Paella for two (1,500 yen).
