Fukuoka City Mayor, Soichiro Takashima has expressed concerns on receiving of rubble into Fukuoka from the areas affected by the March 2011 Earthquake. On Mar. 25, the Minister of Environment, Mr. Hosono visited Fukuoka. He met with Mayor Takashima, as well as the Governor of Fukuoka Hiroshi Ogawa and Kitakyushu’s Mayor, Kenji Kitahashi- to ask both Fukuoka City and Kitakyushu City to receive debris from Ishinomaki, Miyagi Pref. -an area currently trying to deal with massive amounts of rubble. It was the first time for the Minister of Environment to directly approach the heads of Kyushu and Yamaguchi. In response, Takashima noted the “difficulty” involved in receiving the rubble in Fukuoka. Kitahashi also declined to provide a definitive decision, or to provide a date when Kitakyushu would be able to receive the rubble. Kitakyushu City will launch an investigation into the safety of the debris, sending staff to the site. Source: http://news.goo.ne.jp/article/yomiuri/region/20120326-567-OYT1T00129.html
