Golden Week at JR Hakata City is great for families with lots of fun activities on offer. Tokyu Hands is holding handicraft workshops: ukulele making (4/27 (Sat.) ~ 4/29 (Mon.), ¥1,000) and leather animal (¥200) or wool accessory (¥300) making (5/5 (Sun.) ~ 6 (Mon.). The MUJI store on the sixth floor of JR Hakata City also offers handicraft workshops, where children can make shopping bags for their mums in time for Mother’s Day (4/28 (Sun.), 5/5 (Sun.) 13:00~, ¥150). Head to the “Tsubame-no-mori Hiroba” rooftop garden to see the limited time “Koinobori Matsuri”, in which 100 carp-shaped streamers from Tsuetate Onsen, Oguni, Kumamoto will be displayed (4/23 (Tue.) ~ May 6 (Mon.)). There’s also a koinobori carp streamer making workshop (5/5 (Sat.), 6 (Sun.) 11:00~, 13:00~, 15:00~). Other events happening in the building include Pokemon Center’s Golden Week Festival (5/3 (Fri.) ~ 6 (Mon.) 11:00 ~ 17:00) featuring special guest appearance by Pikachu, a Showa Period Toy Exhibition (4/27 (Sat.) ~ 5/6 (Mon.) 11:00 ~ 18:00), and a quiz and workshop about eggs by the Kyushu Takago Farm.
