(English) The 34th Pia Film Festival in Fukuoka will be held Apr. 27~29 in the Theater Hall of Fukuoka City General Library in Momochihama. 16 films – some with English subtitles – will be shown and tickets are available at Ticket Pia outlets or on the day. Each ticket is for entry to one part which will show two films. Tickets are ¥1000 (¥800 Adv.) or for three part packs, tickets are ¥2700 (¥2100 Adv.).

(English) Banff Mountain Film Festival at IMS

(English) Originating in Banff, Canada 35 years ago, the Banff Mountain Film Festival is now held in over 30 countries across the globe. The festival comes to Fukuoka on Nov. 18 at IMS Hall with a film selection focusing on outdoor activities such as bouldering, hiking and climbing, and natural sights such as glaciers. There are two program times, each showing a different selection of films: program A opens at 12:00 (13:00 start), program B opens at 16:30 (17:00 start). Tickets are available at Ticket Pia, Seven Eleven and Circle K Sunkus. Single program tickets are ¥1,500, program A&B tickets are ¥2,500.

(English) Antoinne Barraud Film Spotlight

(English) As part of their documentary film month, the Institut Franco-Japonais du Kyushu is screening three films by Antoine Barraud. Each short film focuses on the work of a cult Japanese director: La montagne de la terreur (The mountain of terror, 33 min) on Shuji Terayama, Les maisons de feu (Houses of fire, 15 min) on Koji Wakamatsu and Le forêt des songes (The forest of dreams, 53 min) on Kohei Oguri. The films will be screened together as a single film. The film showing on 11/9 will be followed by a discussion with Antoine Barraud at 18:45. Spectators who attended the screening of 11/8 may be admitted to Friday’s discussion on presentation of their tickets.

(English) Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Centro Italiano di Fukuoka, this Italian film event “Cinema Mercoledì” is held at Canoviano (Daimyo) across October and November. Every Wednesday (10/3~11/28) a different Italian film will be shown at Canoviano, followed by a discussion over wine.
