The Kyushu Bureau of Telecommunications reports that the number of cell phone and PHS contracts in the seven Kyushu prefectures as of the end of last year reached 11.69 million, an increase of 1.8% from the previous survey conducted at the end of last September. Of this total, 11.47 million were for cell phones. The diffusion rate for the Kyushu population reached 88.6%, a 1.6% rise.
