City Adds New Section To Prepare For 2016 Lions Club Convention

In preparation for the 99th Lions Club International Convention that will be held in Fukuoka next year, City Hall will add a new section dedicated to the event. The convention is expected to attract 35,000 participants from around the globe, making it one of the largest in the group’s history. According to the City, the economic impact of the event will reach ¥11.2 billion in total, about half of which will directly benefit the city. The City hopes the establishment of a dedicated office will ensure effective implementation and help boost the economic impact of the event even further. The event is slated for June 24-28, 2016 and will be the fourth time a Japanese city has hosted the international confab since 1969. The new City Hall section will work on creating multilingual guides to Fukuoka City and encouraging restaurants to create multilingual menus, among other duties. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun
