Enhanced Job Training Provided to Foreign Interns

A Fukuoka Prefecture council of 25 organizations for training foreign workers founded this March has begun a full-scale program of enhancing trainee job skills and Japanese language ability. The head of the organization said he hopes their efforts will help the trainees become accustomed to working in Japan and boost their skills, thus helping their careers in their home countries. Under the current system in use in the prefecture, many companies accept foreign trainees on three year contracts. The first year is spent in training and the next two are spent on the job. There are 3,000 such trainees in Fukuoka Prefecture now, 2,200 of which are affiliated with the council’s member organizations.
