A Nishinippon Shimbun survey revealed that aggregate automobile production in Kyushu in FY 2011 exceeded 1.3 million units. This was the highest total ever, topping the previous high of 1.12 million units in FY 2007. The increase was supported by brisk exports to North America, the restoration of the eco-car subsidy, and demand for vehicles with low fuel consumption. Of the four automakers producing in the region, Nissan Motors had the highest total.
