On Sep. 1 classes began for the 600 students of Futaba Elementary School, but in a slightly different location. The school has temporarily moved into the old Daimyo Elementary School Building until the construction of a new school building is complete. Daimyo Elementary School was decommissioned in March because of low enrollment stemming from the loss of student-age population in the city center. In its final year of operation, Daimyo had only about 60 students and the building has not housed more than 600 students since 1967. Local residents have said the Futaba students have made the neighborhood lively again. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 8/31
