Hakata Riverain To Get New Name

Takashimaya subsidiary Toshin Development Co., the operator of Hakata Riverain Eeny Meeny Miny Mo, announced that it will change the name of the commercial complex to “Hakata Riverain Mall by Takashimaya” on June 12. The company aims to do away with Riverrain’s image as an exclusive high-end shopping center and make the atmosphere friendlier. The renaming will coincide with the opening of Takashimaya Kids Patio, a purveyor of children’s goods and services, on the second floor. Riverrain opened in 1999 as a luxury brand shopping center, but since Toshin Development took over operations in 2012, it has been trying to revamp the facility’s image by adding more accessible stores and, in April 2014, opening the Fukuoka Anpanman Museum and Mall. The three luxury brand shops that occupied the first floor are also being renovated to blend with the new image. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 4/15
