Itoshima City has appointed 19 foreign exchange students studying at Kyushu University as Itoshima International Tourism Ambassadors. Timed to coincide with the opening of a new student dormitory on Kyushu University’s Ito Campus (Nishi Ward), the ambassadors will promote Itoshima tourism by joining local events and attending a series of workshops on cooking local dishes, among other things. A volunteer guide training course has also been held. The ambassadors have been appointed until next February and are expected to share their experiences on social networking sites. According to the Prefecture, the number of visitors to Itoshima in 2012 had doubled compared to the to pre-merger era of 10 years ago.
