JR Kyushu to Get in the Produce Business


It was revealed on the 17th that JR Kyushu plans to enter the agricultural sector by growing vegetables. It has rented three hectares of land in Oita City for cultivating nira, or Chinese chive, and selling them at markets or to group companies that operate eating and drinking establishments. It hopes to realize 100 million yen annually from this business. If successful, the railroad company will consider growing other crops.
