Kyushu Electric Power announced that it planned to mix wood obtained from forestry thinning operations with coal to generate biomass electricity at their power plant in Ashikita-machi, Kumamoto Prefecture. The operations are slated to begin at the end of 2010. The utility says it will burn about 15,000 tons of wood mixed with the coal, which will reduce by about one ton every year the amount of CO2 released if coal alone were burned.
