Kyushu-Farm-Fresh Market to Open in Asia

The Kyushu Economic Federation will team up with the Japan Agricultural Cooperatives (JA) in several prefectures of Kyushu to open Kyushu Farm-Fresh Markets in Asia. Possible candidate sites include Singapore and Hong Kong, and the first market could open as early as 2015. In addition to fresh Kyushu produce and processed goods made from locally grown agricultural products, the markets will include Japanese restaurants. Japanese produce is popular in Asia because it is safe and delicious, and each market will aim for annual sales of ¥5 billion. The idea was born from a committee established by the Kyushu Economic Federation and, the prefectural JAs of Miyazaki, Kumamoto and Kagoshima and the Nagasaki branch of the National JA federation last this month. JA affiliates in Oita, Fukuoka and Saga are also considering joining in the fray to make the push into Asia a Kyushu-wide effort. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 6/20
