Kyutech and NTU (Singapore) Team Up on Tiny Satellite Project

The Kitakyushu-based Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech) has jointly developed a nano-satellite with Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Dubbed AOBA-VELOX III, the satellite weighs just 2.2 kg and measures 10 x 10 x 22 cm. Kyutech plans to conduct one experiment using wireless communication technology to collect temperature data and another to ascertain the effects of radiation in outer space by affixing a thin film to the microcomputer that controls the satellite. Meanwhile, NTU supervised the development of the plasma propulsion system that will be used to power the satellite. This was Kyutech’s first attempt at a joint R&D project with a foreign university. The satellite is scheduled for launch sometime in fiscal 2016. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 7/14
