With the start of the Nippon Series on Oct. 25, local shops in the Hawks Supporters’ Club have started offering special deals if the Hawks defeat the Hanshin Tigers and bring home their first pennant since 2011. Club member and izakaya Hakata Furuya plans to show all the games live and will give out one free draft beer to everyone in the shop each time the Hawks win a game. “Somehow, someway, the Hawks need to win since it’s manager Koji Akiyama’s last season,” said Furuya owner Takao Mori. Other special deals in the event of a Hawks series victory include 20% of an oil change at Filed Motors Fukuoka (Hakata-ku), one free banana at Yaoya Hachiya (Chuo-ku), ¥500 off an esthetic treatment at Meijiya Cosmetics (Kitakyushu), and half-off the first-time registration fee at Ishiba Computer Classroom (Itoda Town). Most of the deals are located in Fukuoka, but the Club’s members include a dentist in Kagoshima who plans to give away a free toothbrush or tube of toothpaste (Shimotsu Dental) and Sugar, a clothing store in Saito, Miyazaki that will offer 10% off any children’s or maternity clothes purchase when you say “Katta ne!” (We won!) at the register.
