The details of Fukuoka Marathon 2014, a new full marathon for citizens, have been released. The race, which will be held on November 9, will start at the Tenjin intersection in central Fukuoka City and progress westward along Hakata Bay past Yafuoku Dome, Fukuoka Tower and the Genko Borui in Imazu, with the end point in Itoshima City. According to Morio Shigematsu, a former marathon record-holder and leader of a group that collected signatures to make this event a reality, “the aim is to create a race along the lines of Boston or Honolulu, a festival-like atmosphere that is fun for both runners and the communities they pass through.” Source: Nishinippon Shimbun Dec. 17
