On Sep. 3, two years after being taken off the market due to an outbreak of foot and mouth disease, exportation of Miyazaki beef resumed. Prior to the outbreak in 2010, the industry was shipping around 30 tons of beef per year to destinations such as the USA, Hong Kong, Macao and Singapore. The relaunch of exportation was celebrated with a ceremony at a Miyazaki meat processing company, and around 400kg of beef was sent by truck to Tokyo. The goal is export around 50 tons of Miyazaki beef per year. Source: Nishinihon Shinbun 9/4 http://www.nishinippon.co.jp/nnp/item/322092
