New ¥100 Coin with Kyushu Shinkansen

Ever wished you could pop a shinkansen in your pocket? Well, now you can (sort of). The Shinkansen will celebrate its 50th anniversary by launching a new ¥100 coin, featuring images of the trains which service Kyushu, Hokkaido, Akita and Yamagata. In Kyushu, the heads side will be replaced by the new 800 series, and the zero series will take the place of tails. To get your mitts on one of these special coins, simply take one of your average, run-of-the-mill ¥100 coins to any bank, and ask to exchange it for a shiny Shinkansen version. Available from April 2016. Source: Nishinippon Newspaper: 6/26
