New Underground Passage in Tenjin Planned

Sources have revealed that the owners of the land upon which Tenjin Vivre and Tenjin Core sit are close to reaching an agreement on the construction of a new underground passage in Tenjin as part of a Meiji-dori area redevelopment project. The new 130m passage will be located immediately east of the Fukuoka Building-Tenjin Core-Tenjin Vivre complex and will link the Tenjin subway station with the plaza in front of Fukuoka City Hall. Plans call for a range of shops to be situated on both sides of the passage, similar to the current Tenjin Chikagai. The landowners will include the new passage in their the area development plan and hope to obtain approval from City Hall by the fall; they intend to draw up detailed design before year’s end. The cost will be split by the landowners along the passage, one of whom, Nishi-Nippon Railroad, has already announced plans to re-develop Fukuoka Building site within the next 10 years.
