In a recent interview with a Nishinippon Shimbun reporter, Nishi-Nippon Railroad Company president Sumio Kuratomi announced that the company plans to enter the real estate development business in Southeast Asia. The company aims to put the knowledge and experience it has gained in condo and housing development to use in the growing markets of Southeast Asia. This would be the real estate unit’s first expansion overseas. President Kuratomi also discussed a new hotel scheduled to open in Seoul, Korea next summer: “The entire Nishitetsu Group is forging ahead with overseas ventures—not just the hotel unit, but the real estate unit as well. Later in the interview, he added, “No matter where we go, our concept of providing compact, well-built housing will not change.
