Nishitetsu To Team Up With JA On Agribusiness Venture

Nishitetsu announced that it will establish a joint agricultural venture with the Federation of Japanese Agricultural Cooperatives (JA Zenno) in March. The aim is to train new farmers and producers and to revitalize the communities along Nishitetsu’s train lines. This move marks the first time that JA Zenno has teamed up with a private company to create an agricultural corporation. The company, which has been tentatively dubbed NJ Agri Support, will be based in Ogi Town, Fukuoka Prefecture. Capitalized at ¥100 million, Nishitetsu will own 51% of the new venture. One of the company’s first scheduled initiatives is to open a model Amaou strawberry farm in Ogi Town in June. Nishitetsu also plans to sell the produce grown by the new company in its supermarkets and restaurants. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 2/20
