The period during which the government and Kyushu Electric Power requested at least a 10% reduction in power consumption for the summer began on July 2. The basis for comparison used for the cutback is the consumption total during the summer of 2010. The reduction has been requested because Kyushu Electric’s nuclear power plants are still idled. The request exceeds last year’s actual reduction of roughly 7%.
