Powerful Earthquake Rattles Kyushu

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off southern Kyushu at at 2:06 a.m. on Friday morning but no tsunami warning was issued.The epicenter of the quake was located 13kms north of Kunisakishi, Oita Prefecture. The depth was measured at 82kms. No news of fatalities or damage accept for 14 minor injuries as people sought refuge following the quake according to Kyodo News. The Japanese meteorological agency measured the quake as having a preliminary magnitude of 6.1, strongest in parts of Shikoku, Honshu and Kyushu islands. No problems detected at Ikata nuclear plant in Ehime Pref. or at the Shimane plant in Shimane Pref. Chart from http://www.usgs.gov/
