Roadside Tenjin Toilet To Be Closed

After 40 years in service, the public toilet on Kokutai Rd. near Kego Shrine is likely to close. The toilet was opened by the City in December 1974 to accommodate the patrons of yatai food stalls, which were in their heyday. However, the remaining yatai on Kokutai Rd. were relocated elsewhere in 2007 and the City finished its Kego Park renovations, including a new toilet, in 2012. Although some may have fond memories of stumbling into this conveniently located toilet, it has drawn many a complaint for its bad odor and the fact that urinal users are in plain view of passers-by. A City Hall employee familiar with the facility said, “It no longer appears to be necessary.” City Hall is in discussions to remove the toilet sometime in the upcoming fiscal year.
