Local governments around Japan have started opening websites to show in easy-to-understand terms where taxpayer money is being spent. Sites made with free software developed in England began popping up in 2012, and now more than 150 municipalities in Japan have them. In Kyushu the cities of Fukuoka, Kitakyushu and Yanagawa in Fukuoka Prefecture, Tosu City in Saga Prefecture, and Goto City in Nagasaki Prefecture have already opened “Where Does My Money Go” sites.
