The Softbank Hawks plan to renovate the outfield wall in Yafuoku Dome with the hope of increasing home runs next season. Straight away center and the foul poles will remain 122m and 100m away from home plate, respectively, but the club will create a so-called “lucky zone” by moving the fences in as much as 6m in certain areas and lowering them by 2 to 3m from the current height of 5.8m. The lucky zone will house about 700 new seats. On their way to winning the pennant in 2014, the Hawks scored a Pacific League-leading 607 runs, but only hit 95 home runs, 5th among the league’s six teams. “I hope this makes the games more exciting [for the fans], said team owner Masayoshi Son. Renovation work is slated to begin early next year. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 12/24
