Spicy mentaiko maker Fukuya announced plans to foray into the restaurant business. The company will refurbish its shop in Kotabe (Sawara-ku) into a restaurant/mentaiko store in an effort to expand its revenue sources. The restaurant, which has been dubbed Umitabe no Susume, will open on Nov. 21 and will offer seafood set meals and seafood-topped champion. After the mentai infused ochazuke it began selling at its Dazaifu shop in 2012 proved popular, Fukuya decided to open a full-fledged restaurant. “We hope bringing customers in on a daily basis, not just during the holiday gift-giving season, will allows us to sell more mentaiko,” remarked a company spokesperson.
