Kyushu Electric Company will start accepting new renewable energy buyback contracts again. The contracts, which had been suspended, will be resumed under a new set of guidelines issued by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Kyuden is expected to release application details on Dec. 22. Kyuden’s buyback quota for the whole of Kyushu has been set at 8.17 million kW, but since it is already under contract to buy back 8.15 million kW, it will only be accepting about 20,000 kW of buybacks under the new scheme. With a wealth of cheap land and ample sunlight, Kyushu is ideal for installing solar panels, but the limited buyback scheme is bound to slow development. Objections are sure to be raised by operators anticipating losses from land they’ve already acquired or capital investments they’ve already made. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 12/19
