The 12-member Sasaguri Town Council unanimously passed a resolution requesting that every household display the Japanese flag on national holidays. The purpose of the legislation is to “make people think about the meaning and message of each holiday and to convey that meaning to our children”. This year, the Onojo City and Kasaya Town adopted similar measures, but Sasaguri’s ordinance is unique in that its purview extends to individual households. Council president Masatoshi Imaizumi stated, “There may be some people who are against raising the flag, but this resolution will not force them to fly one.” Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 12/20
