On Apr. 16, Solar Power Network, a Canadian company that installs roof-top solar panels, announced plans to install a 2130 kW solar panel array on the roof of Nissan Kyushu’s factories in Kanda Town. The plan calls for the installation of 8,000 panels on 16,500 m2 of roof, which will generate 2.34 million kW annually, enough electricity to power 610 households. All of the electricity will be sold to Kyuden, and Solar Power Network will pay rent to Nissan Kyushu for the roof space. The project will cost ¥500 million; work will begin this year, and the system is slated to go live in early 2015. Solar Power Network, which currently operates solar arrays at 600 locations in Canada, established a Japanese subsidiary last year. This will be its third solar power generation project in Japan.
