A groundbreaking ceremony for the new domestic terminal at Fukuoka Airport was held on July 21. The terminal is slated for completion in March 2019 at a total cost of ¥34.6 billion. Comprising five aboveground and two underground floors, the new terminal will cover 128,000 m2 of floor space and feature a vaulted ceiling stretching from the subway station entrance gates up to the 4th floor. Work will be performed by two companies, Shimizu Construction and Nishitetsu Kensetsu, as well as their partners and subcontractors, and it will run in parallel with the construction of a new runway by the national government.
