New Lexus SUV To Be Made In Kyushu

Toyota Motor unveiled its all new Lexus NX sport utility vehicle at the ongoing Beijing Motor Show. The NX is the first compact SUV for Lexus, and Toyota plans to sell 80,000 to 90,000 vehicles worldwide. Production is slated to begin at Toyota Motor Kyushu’s plant in Miyawaka City this summer. Packed with environmentally-friendly features, the NX will come equipped with fuel efficient 2.0 L turbo engine, while the NX 200t and the hybrid NX 300h will feature the 2.5 L version. Last year, production of the Highlander SUV and the Lexus RX for North American market was moved from Kyushu to overseas plants, and Toyota was expected to invest in a new model to add 300,000 vehicles to the Kyushu plant’s annual output. The new turbo engines will be produced at Toyota Motor Kyushu’s Kanda plant to improve price competition. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 4/22
